Comprehensive Care for Dizziness and Balance Disorders
Dizziness & Balance Problems

Our clinic is one of the few that is equipped with specialised vestibular equipment to help our university-qualified audiologists assess your vestibular system.
If you’re feeling dizzy, unsteady and feel like you could be suffering from a balance disorder, it’s a good idea to consult with your GP or an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist and obtain a referral for further evaluation.
Your Doctor may refer you to ONDC to have one or more of the specialised tests performed, once all tests have been completed, our Audiologist will send a comprehensive report back to your referring Doctor advising them of our findings.
Diagnostic Test Descriptions
Our Audiologist will conduct a thorough hearing evaluation assessing you in a few different areas. This test will take approximately 1 hour and will include the following:
- Detailed history of your hearing health
- Otoscopy: an examination of the outer ear canal and eardrum using a non-invasive magnifier and light.
- Pure Tone Audiometry: Conducted in a soundproof booth, this test will find the softest, least audible sound that you can hear. During the test, you will wear earphones and be asked to press a button whenever you hear a range of sounds directed at one ear at a time.
- Speech Discrimination: This test assesses your ability to hear one and two-syllable words. You will be asked to repeat short and simple words presented through a pair of headphones.
- Tympanometry: this test is used to identify issues in the middle ear, such as the accumulation of fluid or wax, a perforated eardrum, or damage to the tiny bones in the middle ear. It also includes acoustic reflex testing to assess the function of the inner ear, cranial nerves, and brainstem. During the test, a soft plug is placed in each ear, one at a time, to change pressure, create noise, and monitor the ear’s responses to sound and different pressures.
Our Audiologists will conduct a simple examination to evaluate the reactions from your inner ear. You will be exposed to gentle sounds while they gauge the responses using a small foam ear tip inserted into the ear canal. This examination requires no active participation from you.
Our audiologist will ask you to rest back in a comfortable recliner while they attach four self-adhesive electrodes to your skin. One electrode will be placed on your forehead, one behind each ear, and the last one on your chin. These electrodes are non-invasive and will not cause any discomfort. While wearing earphones, you will hear a series of loud clicking sounds presented to each ear one at a time. The electrodes will record tiny responses and transmit them to the computer for analysis and storage. This test is designed to evaluate the hearing nerve pathway. (No active involvement from you is necessary during this procedure).
We request that you not wear facial makeup, perfumes, moisturisers or creams on the forehead, chin area, or under the ears/neck/jawline. Please also refrain from having products such as hairspray/gel in your hair.
You will be asked to sit on a chair and will have lightweight camera goggles securely attached to your head. During this examination, the Audiologist will support your head and perform short, rapid movements to the side and up and down in an unpredictable manner. The camera goggles are designed to capture and analyse your eye movements as a reaction to the head movements.
It is important to inform the Audiologist of any notable head or neck problems before the test commences.
Please do not wear any eye-makeup, especially mascara.
You will sit in a comfortable recliner while our audiologist places self-adhesive electrodes onto the skin. One electrode is on the forehead, two are under each eye, and two are placed on either side of the neck. These electrodes are non-invasive and will not cause any discomfort. The Audiologist will then ask you to move your head into a few different positions.
The electrodes will then record very small responses and send them to the computer for storage and measurement.
This test will assess certain parts of the balance system.
We request that you not wear facial makeup, perfumes, moisturisers or creams on the forehead, chin area, or under the ears/neck/jawline. Please also refrain from having products such as hairspray/gel in your hair.
The Audiologist will direct you to sit up on a medical bed and have you wear a pair of camera goggles (VNG) or attach self-adhesive electrodes to your face (ENG). You will then need to gaze at and/or track certain lights with your eyes, while the goggles (or electrodes) will document and assess your eye movements. This evaluation targets particular aspects of the balance system.
Please do not wear any eye-makeup, especially mascara.
You will recline in a nearly flat position (supine) on a medical bed. Camera goggles (or electrodes) will be placed on your face to monitor and measure your eye movements in response to cool and warm air which will be used to irrigate each ear. This is a stimulation test to diagnose any damage to the acoustic nerve (the nerve involved in hearing and balance) or the brain stem.
This test may induce a sense of dizziness in the patient, typically of short duration. While some patients may only experience mild dizziness, others may feel more pronounced symptoms. It is recommended to have a support person accompany you to the testing session in case you feel unwell after the test.
Please be sure to have MINIMAL WAX OCCLUDING THE EAR CANALS (See GP or ENT prior to test).
Please do not wear any eye-makeup, especially mascara.
Your Audiologist will have you reclined in a comfortable chair, they will then place self-adhesive electrodes on the skin. Throughout the test, earphones will be placed over the ears and deliver a series of clicking sounds to each ear. This test does not require you to react to the sounds but you are required to remain awake and keep your mind active. We suggest for clients to bring reading material that will keep you engaged for approximately 2 hours.
We request that you not wear facial makeup, perfumes, moisturisers or creams on the forehead, chin area, or under the ears/neck/jawline. Please also refrain from having products such as hairspray/gel in your hair.
