Hearing Aids

How do Hearing Aids help with hearing loss?

Hearing aids are advanced electronic devices designed to enhance sounds for individuals experiencing hearing loss.

The following components make up a hearing aid:

  • Microphone
  • Amplifier
  • Speaker
  • Battery
  • Computer processor

With various types available to cater to different levels of impairment, these devices are tailored to each person’s unique hearing needs, much like how prescription glasses are customised for vision correction. By amplifying specific frequencies or sounds that are challenging, hearing aids enable better hearing, communication, and engagement in your daily activities.

At ONDC Hearing Specialists, we are not directly affiliated with specific hearing aid manufacturers, allowing us to provide you with a diverse selection of styles and brands. We prioritise your rehabilitation outcomes over any financial interests, ensuring that you achieve optimal hearing results before making any decisions. Our goal is to tailor the perfect solution for your unique needs, preferences and lifestyle.

There’s a wide variety of hearing aid styles out there, each with different brands, sizes, and prices. However, not every style is a one-size-fits-all solution for everyone’s hearing needs. It’s crucial to understand that certain styles are more suitable for specific hearing needs and lifestyles. When selecting a hearing aid style, it’s important to take into account factors such as your hearing loss, your lifestyle and hearing expectations, dexterity, functional practicality, ear anal size and your budget.

Your audiologist will provide recommendations based on what’s best for you, and then the decision is yours to make.

Hearing aids come in a wide variety of types and styles, all of which can be categorised into two main groups.

  1. In the ear devices: Very small in-ear hearing aids are designed to sit inside the ear or ear canal for a subtle and comfortable fit.
  2. Behind the ear devices: The majority of behind-the-ear devices feature an almost undetectable receiver that rests in the ear, while the main part of the device sits snugly behind the ear.

ONDC is here to support you with your hearing aids every step of the way. If you’re experiencing any issues, require adjustments, need repairs, or want a refresher on how to use and manage your devices, please reach out to us.
